About Rolfing® Structural Integration

Over the past thirty years, Rolfing® has provided thousands of people relief from pain and stress. Even with this excellent record, it remains a mystery to many, and I am frequently asked, "What is Rolfing?"

Created by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolfing Structural Integration is a holistic system of soft tissue manipulation that brings the body into healthier and more efficient aliment by releasing and/or re-educating areas of tension and conflict. When an individual experiences this higher level of order they are free to express more of who they truly are.

The combination of tissue release, re-education, aliment, and the possibility for personal transformation are some of the things that make Rolfing so unique.

The whole body can be addressed during ten systematic sessions known as the Ten Series, or, a specific complaint can be the focus of a few appointments. And because people are unique, I always include a client's personal healing goal, transformative path, dream or curiosity during each session. Helping clients understand and integrate any changes Rolfing may provide, thus allowing someone to meet the world from a new place, is another focus of my work.

What does it feel like?

Rolfing feels wonderful and is very relaxing. The touch can range from light to comfortably deep and the contact always stays within an individual's comfort zone.

A practitioner uses direct pressure to "melt" connective tissue adhesions (tight or restricted areas of the body's soft tissue) and release tension trapped in the affected area.

It is Rolfing's unique combination of depth, speed, and pressure that allows a practitioner to contact the different layers and structures of a body with great exactness.

Who is it for?

Rolfing benefits nearly everyone. Many people seek Rolfing to recover from chronic pain, injury, car accidents, athletic wear and tear, and work or living related stress.

How does it help?

Every person is different and so are the results. However, it is not surprising for individuals to find relief from pain and tension, move more easily with greater flexibility and range of motion, and feel more at home in their bodies.

Who and How does it help?

When stress or trauma overwhelms and manifests in the body, connective tissue may become increasingly solid and rigid or hold onto non-optimal experiences. Many folks learn to live with the associated discomfort. Thankfully, this is where Rolfing comes in, as it can be beneficial for just about everyone. And because each person is unique, so are the results. However, it is not surprising for individuals to find relief from pain and tension, move more easily, and feel more at home in their bodies.
